FDOTLOGOThe Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) invites you to attend an Open House for the S.R. 679 Pinellas Bayway Bridge Replacement Design-Build Project from North of Yacht Club Lane to S.R. 682 in Pinellas County, Florida. The open house will be held:

DATE:    April 27,2017
TIME:    4 pm to 7 pm
LOCATION:       St. Petersburg College, Allstate Center, Florida Room
ADDRESS:         3200 34th Street S., St. Petersburg, FL 33711

The meeting will be held in an open house format and no formal presentation will be given. You are encouraged to stop by anytime between 4 pm and 7 pm to view project displays. FDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project and answer any questions.

Project Overview

The project includes replacing the existing two-lane bascule bridge with a two-lane, high-level, fixed bridge (Bayway Structure “E,” which is the bridge between Isla Del Sol and Tierra Verde islands), repaving the existing roadway, and replacing a seawall south of the bridge.

The project will also include the construction of a 12-foot-wide shared-use path on the east side and a 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk on the west side of S.R. 679 for the entire project limits. Instead of a traffic signal, a roundabout will be built at Madonna Boulevard/1st Street.

Project Schedule

FDOT plans on selecting a design-build contractor by the end of 2017. Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2018 and last approximately three years.

What is Design-Build?

Design build projects allow the contractor to participate in the design in an effort to reduce costs and expedite construction. This allows for cost savings and significant time savings through innovative designs, material, and construction techniques.

FDOT will complete this project using the design-build project delivery method. FDOT will issue a single contract with one contractor to both design and construct a replacement bridge, repave S.R. 679, and replace the seawall on Tierra Verde.

If you are unable to attend the meeting and would like more information about the project, please contact FDOT Design Project Manager Kevin Lee, at 813-975-6155 or by e-mail at Kevin.lee@dot.state.fi.us.
